Blackheads are one of the most common enemy causes in the face. People who have oily skin are most likely to have blackheads. Most of the people try to find remedies to get rid of blackheads. Many people are sensitive to salicylic acid, so first you can apply this cleanser once a day. When your skin gets to use it you can use the cleanser twice a day, morning and night. 

Use Skin Brush 

Skin brush helps you to remove the top layer of the skin and it removes the excess dead skin cells. Since this can irritate better to use the skin brush once a week. You can choose a skin brush according to your budget. There are both electric-based skin brushes and affordable hand-held brushes in the market. Both types can use with your cleanser 

Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids 

Regular exfoliating produces a negative effect on acne and this can cause further redness and irritation for inflammatory acne. But, when it comes to blackheads, regular exfoliation can helps to remove the excess amount of dead skin cells that can cause clogging pores. This also gently removes existing blackheads. 

Many people use harsh scrubs to exfoliate. But you can use Alpha and Beta hydroxyl acids (AHA and BHA) instead of scrubs. Glycolic acid is the most common type of AHA, and Salicylic acid is most common in BHA. These solutions remove the top layer of the skin and make your skin softer by cleansing the pores. BHAs are most widely available in the market and more affordable than AHAs also. These exfoliation products should use once or twice a week. 

Clay Mask 

Clay masks help to remove dirt, oil, and other elements deep from your pores. These masks are fit better for oily skins to maintain healthy skin. Clay masks can loosen and remove the clogged pores in blackheads. 

Some clay masks contain sulfur as an ingredient. Sulfur also a good ingredient that helps to breakdown the dead skin cells that may cause blackheads. You can use this mask once a week in addition to your exfoliating treatment.  

Charcoal Mask 

Charcoal masks work deep in the skin to remove oil, dead skin cells, and other impurities. Activated charcoal can absorb bacteria and toxins in the body. Antibacterial properties in activated charcoal help to lift bacteria from the pores. 

If you are using a charcoal mask for the first time, it’s better to test the product on a small patch of skin on the inside of the elbow. If there is no itching or redness within a few hours, you can use it. Since the overuse may cause dryness, redness, and sensitivity of the skin, better to use this once a week. 

Use topical retinoid 

This can treat for more stubborn blackheads. Retinoid reduces the stickiness of the cells that cause clog pores and also regenerates the skin. If the ingredients of the retinol cream are incorrect percentage you can have the best results against blackheads. 

Chemical Peel 

This method is not considered as a primary treatment for blackheads. Chemical peels can remove dead skin cells and shrink enlarged pores. This is traditionally used for anti-aging benefits. This contains AHAs, which remove the top layer of the skin. You can have a smooth and refreshed looking skin after going through this. 

Oral acne medication 

You have to move into oral medication if your blackheads problem is severe. When all the remedies you tried to get rid of blackheads got to fail, a dermatologist might prescribe oral medication. These medications work on hormone levels of the body and decrease oil production in the skin.  

General Considerations 

Sleeping with makeup on is asking for more blackheads. So, make sure to remove the makeup before you go to bed at night. If there is makeup on your face overnight, it causes to clog your pores. 

Make sure to use noncomedogenic to make up and face products. Noncomedogenic means that the products won’t cause comedones or clogged pores which cause blackheads. Usually, every type of skin product has a noncomedogenic counterpart, but it’s better to read the label to make sure that it is a noncomedogenic product before buy. 

If you continue to see new or existing blackheads over 6 to 12 weeks, you may need to meet a dermatologist. Then they may recommend your treatments to follow.

Benzoyl peroxide 

It is an anti-inflammatory solution, which helps to calm inflammatory acne such as, cyst, pustules, papules, and nodules. Since blackheads and whiteheads are con considered as inflammatory types of acne benzoyl peroxide will not work. 


This is the process of removing pimple manually by putting pressure directly on the spot. Since dermatologists and professionals have more skills and the right tools, better to left on them. If you try to do it without the help of professionals, it may cause redness, irritation, or permanent scarring.
